The programme for this Rotary year will be very similar to the tried and tested
formula of previous years, and as stated at the Club Assembly it is hoped we can
raise between £45 and £50 per member so that Rotary International will be
able to carry out its planned projects, for example the final eradication of polio,
the supply of clean water, and help with literacy.
A Foundation levy is not included in the Club’s annual subscription as I believe
every Rotarian should have the choice to contribute or not.
If you feel able to give something, the easiest and most cost effective way is by
means of a gift aided annual banker’s order.
A sober thought is to ask that you leave something in your Will for the Rotary
Foundation.
More pertinently you could apply for and use the Rotary credit card.
It was not appropriate to have a frugal meal last year, which gives me the excuse to
have two this year!
The monthly raffle adds around £30 to £35 each time and of course the
sales of Christmas cards, calendars and bulletin greetings all help.
I do hope that all members can bring themselves to support our own charity -
Foundation.
It allows us, along with other Rotary Clubs worldwide, to achieve a level of success
which would be undreamed of by individual Clubs or even Districts.
In summary, the programme, as stated at the Club Assembly is mainly as follows:-
- To raise approximately £45 per member to enable R.I. to carry out its
planned projects.
- To obtain matching grants which are available from District for use in the local
community.
- To encourage members to leave $1000 in their wills for Rotary Foundation.
- To urge more members to apply for and use the Rotary credit card.
- To ask every member to update/renew or start their personal gifts to Foundation
through Gift Aid declarations; could I suggest a minimum of £25 per annum
please.
- Finally, with the Club's agreement and support, the Foundation Committee intends
to continue with:
- 1. The monthly raffle
- 2. Arrange an occasional frugal meal
- 3. Sell Christmas cards and calendars
- 4. Encourage members to send Christmas/New Year greetings via the Bulletin for
a minimum donation of £25.
