Before outlining our intended programme of events and activities for the coming year,
I would like to express the out-going committee’s appreciation of President Elect,
Doug McLaren’s efforts and commitment during his last 5 years as chairman of
the Vocational Service Committee.
Not big in stature but big in delivery!!
The new committee, which is based on a blend of youth and experience and unlike
Sven’s World Cup squad, contains no ‘gambles’, and hopes it can be
as successful as that of the last 5 years.
The programme for the 2006 Presidential year will be based to a large extent on
previous year’s successful format.
To this end the following key areas will include:-
- Youth Speaks:
We will continue to support the Rotary Club of Holderness in the organisation and
running of this event.
We will also continue to provide appropriate financial support.
- Children’s University / Young Enterprise:
Through the good auspices of Roy Burge and Geoff Hardaker we will continue to support
mentoring projects associated with Children’s University and Young
Enterprise.
In addition members will be encouraged to consider supporting Year 10/11 mentoring at
local schools.
This is an area in which the experience of our members can provide much needed
guidance for young people.
- St.Andrew’s School:
Under the experienced guidance of John May / Jim Claughton, and with the energetic
efforts of our own ‘ground force’ squad, we will continue to support the
school’s gardening project.
- Social and educational visits:
My committee will develop a wide and varied programme, which hopefully will appeal to
all Club members.
In so doing, we will attempt to create a greater awareness of local businesses and
their links to the community.
Socially our aim is to have as much fun and fellowship as we possibly can, and in this
respect teetotal events will not be considered a priority.
- Joint Committee Events:
Despite the difficulty this year in organising the ‘Stroke awareness’ event,
it is hoped that with the combined efforts of the Community Services Committee and
ourselves, we can repeat earlier years’ success in providing this service to the
local community.
Finally it would be remiss of the new Vocational Services Committee not to express its
sincere thanks to last year’s committee for all their hard work.
